Remote Healthcare Jobs in 2026: What Is Open and What It Pays
Remote healthcare work exists, but almost all of it is project-based expert work, not a clinical job. This page uses the open roles on SOJI on 14 October 2026 to show what is available, what it pays and who can apply.
The short version
- 59 open roles in healthcare, medicine and mental health, and 56 of them show an hourly rate.
- Median pay is about $100 an hour (the middle of each listed range). Listed rates run from about $20 an hour for coding work up to $350–450 for an oncologist.
- 32 roles are open worldwide, 23 are limited to people in the United States, and the rest name other countries.
- Micro1 lists 39 of the roles and Mercor 20.
What is open, by specialty
Titles can match more than one group, so the counts overlap. Pay is the range each listing shows, in US dollars per hour.
- Hospitalists: 12 roles, $70–170 an hour (median about $103), 8 open worldwide.
- Physicians, general and specialist: 10 roles, $70–285 an hour (median about $130), 2 open worldwide.
- Psychiatrists and psychologists: 8 roles, $100–200 an hour (median about $150), all 8 open worldwide. Most of them ask for a second language such as Japanese, Vietnamese or Cantonese.
- Nurses: 5 roles, $55–125 an hour (median about $100), 2 open worldwide.
- Clinical documentation and clinical consulting: 11 roles, $45–190 an hour (median about $100), 4 open worldwide.
- Pharmacy: 3 roles, $30–115 an hour (median about $70), 2 open worldwide.
- Medical coding: 2 roles, $20–65 an hour (median about $40), both limited to the US.
How to read these numbers
These are hourly rates for independent-contractor work, before tax. Hours are usually part-time and vary by project, so a high hourly rate is not a salary. The highest figures are rare specialist roles and the lowest are annotation or coding tasks. To see what a rate leaves after tax in your country, use the freelance tax calculator, and for how these rates compare across all fields see the pay index.
Who can apply
Each listing sets its own rules: a degree or licence, years of practice, a specialty, a language, or a country. Roles marked worldwide are open to applicants from any country, but you still need to meet the qualification. Physician roles are the most location-limited (only 2 of 10 are open worldwide), while the bilingual mental-health roles are the most open. If you are outside the US, see remote work for doctors outside the US.
How to apply
- Open the healthcare listings and shortlist roles that match your profession and country.
- Read the qualification, location and pay-unit lines of each one.
- Apply through the listing, with your profession, specialty, years of practice and languages stated clearly.
- Expect a screening step on the platform, such as an interview or a short assessment.
- Never use real patient information in a test or a task.
Frequently asked questions
Are remote healthcare jobs real?
Yes, as paid contractor projects: reviewing clinical records, evaluating AI medical answers and writing clinical cases. They are not a replacement for clinical practice, and hours are not guaranteed.
Do I need to live in the United States?
Not always. 32 of the 59 open roles are open worldwide, but most physician and coding roles are limited to the US. Check each listing.
Which specialty pays the most?
Rare specialists such as oncologists reach $350–450 an hour, while bilingual psychiatrists and psychologists list $100–200. Rates are what each listing shows and can change.
Can I do this alongside a clinical job?
Many people do, because the work is remote and part-time. Check your employment contract and your professional rules on outside work first.
Limitations
Counts and pay come from SOJI's listings on 14 October 2026 and change as roles open and close. Applying does not guarantee a project. This is general information, not tax, legal or professional advice.
SOJI is an independent job board and is not affiliated with Mercor or Micro1. If you apply through our referral links and are hired, SOJI may earn a commission, at no cost to you, and this does not affect which jobs we publish. More on the about page.
