Whether a role is worldwide depends heavily on the field: design, languages and engineering listings are mostly open to everyone, while legal and defense listings are mostly restricted.

These figures come from SOJI's public job feed on 17 October 2026: 428 open listings from Mercor and Micro1, each with a stated location. A listing can carry more than one field, so the field counts below overlap. The numbers describe listings on SOJI, not every remote job on the internet.

A restriction usually comes from licensing, data rules, tax or payment set-up, not from a wish to exclude people. Legal roles often require a licence to practise in a specific country. Among listings with an hourly dollar rate, the median for worldwide roles was $70 an hour and for restricted roles $90. Do not read this as "restricted roles are better".
