Does Amazon Hire for Work From Home? What to Check Before You Apply

Amazon does hire for some work-from-home roles, mostly customer service and certain corporate and technical positions, but the openings change often and many are limited to specific states or countries. The only reliable way to know is to check the current listing on Amazon's own hiring pages.

What Amazon remote roles usually look like

Amazon's remote customer service listings have, in past postings, required applicants to live in one of a stated list of states. The lists differ from posting to posting and have changed over the years, so an old article is not a safe guide. Other typical requirements in those listings include a high school diploma or equivalent, fluent English, and basic phone and computer skills. Some roles are seasonal or temporary.

Corporate and technical roles can also be remote or hybrid, and their requirements follow the role. Always read the location line in the posting.

How to check what is open

  1. Go to Amazon's official hiring site and search for terms such as "virtual" or "remote".
  2. Open the posting and read the location, eligibility and work-hours lines.
  3. Check whether the role is temporary, seasonal or permanent.
  4. Apply only through the official site.

Be careful with copies and scams

Third-party sites often repost old Amazon listings or add fees. Amazon does not charge applicants. If a message offers an Amazon job and asks for payment or moves you to a private chat, treat it as a scam. See how to tell legitimate boards from scams.

Frequently asked questions

Does Amazon hire remote workers in every state?

Not for every role. Many remote listings limit eligible states, and the list depends on the posting.

Is Amazon remote work permanent?

Some roles are permanent and some are seasonal or temporary. The posting states which.

Do I need experience?

For some customer service roles, a high school diploma and basic skills are the stated minimum. Other roles ask for specific experience.
