How Management Consultants Teach AI to Think Like a Strategist

Ask an AI model to size a market or structure a cost-transformation plan, and it will produce something that looks like consulting work. Whether it's actually rigorous is a different question — and answering that question is now a paid remote role for experienced consultants.

What the work looks like

You turn real engagements into anonymized, realistic business cases with a clear, defensible answer, then show how frameworks like MECE, hypothesis-driven analysis, or market sizing apply to that messy scenario — not the textbook version. You write the consultant-grade deliverable that sets the bar, then grade AI-generated responses against it, flagging weak reasoning or unsupported claims.

What labs are looking for

Expect requirements like several years at MBB, Big Four advisory, a boutique, or in-house strategy — plus comfort writing at an executive, client-ready level. An MBA is often listed as preferred, not required; what matters more is a track record of deliverables that survived partner review.

Time and pay

Most roles run 15-20 hours a week, fully asynchronous, around $100/hour, reviewed and renewed monthly rather than as a single fixed contract — so strong performance tends to lead to more work, not a one-off gig.

Consider this if

Your value has always been the judgment behind the slide, not the slide itself. That judgment is exactly what's being benchmarked. Look for Management Consulting roles on SOJI to see what's currently open.
