About the Role

micro1 is engaging inpatient coders (ICD-10 / CCS / CIC certified) to contribute their expertise to a project annotating and reviewing inpatient medical records to help train next-generation AI systems.

What You'll Do

  • Annotate and review inpatient medical records (admission notes, progress notes, operative reports, consults, lab/imaging results, discharge summaries), assigning precise ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes
  • Identify principal and secondary diagnoses, sequence codes per guidelines, assign Present on Admission (POA) indicators, and validate MS-DRG assignment including CCs/MCCs
  • Apply inpatient-specific coding conventions (UHDDS definitions, ICD-10-CM/PCS Official Guidelines, AHA Coding Clinic guidance), identifying hospital-acquired conditions and patient safety indicators
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to clarify requirements and resolve documentation ambiguities
  • Deliver feedback on coding guidelines and complex cases

Requirements

  • Active AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or AAPC Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) credential
  • Thorough ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and MS-DRG methodology expertise with hands-on inpatient coding experience
  • Experience across diverse inpatient settings (acute care, teaching hospitals, specialty units, surgical, trauma, oncology, cardiology, transplant)
  • Strong written/verbal communication and attention to detail
  • Access to current ICD-10-CM/PCS code sets, Official Coding Guidelines, and MS-DRG grouper tools

Compensation & Logistics

  • $50-$70/hour, remote, contract work via micro1
